Dr Derek Jones

Dr Derek Jones graduated in sociology from the University of York before training as an occupational therapist at Newcastle upon Tyne Polytechnic. For the past 20 years, he has been teaching occupational therapists and other nursing and allied health students in Edinburgh, Glasgow, and currently Northumbria University. His doctoral research on professionals' attitudes and beliefs about chronic pain was funded by a National Lottery grant in collaboration with Pain Association Scotland and Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. He was awarded his Phd in 2005 and has continued to engage in pain related research with a particular interest in pain education.

> Dr Jones is an experienced postgraduate research supervisor and has supported six PhD students to completion. He was a member of the International Association for the Study of Pain working group that produced the 2013 curriculum guidelines for occupational therapy and a member of the guideline development group for the management of pain in older adults supported by the British Pain Society/British Geriatric Society. Derek is a member of the editorial boards of the British Journal of Pain and the Journal of Pain Management.
